A new study has identified the most common walking personalities – and it turns out there are eight of them

According to a study, adults can be categorised into one of eight walking personalities, including the ‘Social Stroller’ and the ‘Slouch’. Other common types include the ‘Fashion-over-Function’ walker, who dons pristine white trainers even in muddy fields, and the ‘Overprepared’ walker, equipped with everything from a flask of coffee to a first aid kit.
The poll, which surveyed 2,000 adults who enjoy winter walks and celebrate Christmas, revealed that the average respondent will embark on approximately six walks over the festive period, with 61% feeling the need to do so to counterbalance their holiday indulgence
Nearly three-quarters of festive strollers crave the fresh air, whilst 63% enjoy the exercise. But 49% like going on a walk simply to get out of the house for a while, and 38% see it as a good way of spending time with family.
Overall, 61% say walks are an important part of their Christmas tradition.
Three in ten admitted they like a walk in ‘harsher’ winter weather conditions, like rain, frost or snow. But top pet peeves were dog poo left on paths and trails, muddy paths and overly crowded routes, according to the OnePoll.com figures.
And whilst 24% plan their festive walking routes out in advance, 39% simply head out and see where they end up.
This year, waterproof jackets and thermal socks (both 26%) and handwarmers (20%) all topped the list of accessories walkers most want to find under the tree
The spokesperson for Regatta said: “You don’t need to plan the perfect route or have loads of gear to enjoy a winter walk.
“Most of us simply head out and see where we end up – that’s part of the charm. But the British weather does like to keep us on our toes, especially at Christmas.
“Even if you set off in bright sunshine, the rain can roll in quickly, so having the right waterproof or footwear can make all the difference.
